Prof. Dr. Luc van Gool is a Professor at ETH Zurich since the fall of 1998. He is head of the Computer Vision Laboratory. Prof. Dr. Luc got his PhD degree from the University of Leuven in Belgium, with a dissertation on the use of invariance in computer vision. With his research teams, he is a partner in several national and international projects, e.g. the EU ACTS project Vanguard, the EU Esprit projects Improofs and Impact, and the EU Brite-Euram project Soquetec. His major research interests include 2D and 3D object recognition, texture analysis, range acquisition, stereo vision, robot vision, and optical flow. In his talk he'll discuss this recent work on the unsupervised recognitionof object classes and how far we can push this into the wild. The work can become relevant in the context of continual learning.
